About us

We started Alpaca Voladora with one thing in mind: sharing the genuine warmth and exceptional craftsmanship of Ecuador's Andes with Europe, while keeping every garment's soul intact. We're not just a brand, we're a direct connection between the artisans who create each piece and you, the person who'll treasure it for years.

The origins

Our knitwear starts with alpaca fiber responsibly sourced from Latacunga, high in the Andes. From there, it travels around 200 km north to Otavalo, Ecuador, a town with a rich indigenous culture and long weaving tradition. Here, we work directly with Washington, a local artisan, to make our knitwear.

A legacy from generations

For Washington, weaving is not just a profession, it is a 40-year family legacy. Learning the craft from his father, Washington stitched his first garment at just 12 years old, alongside his six siblings.

Today, he and his wife run a workshop that brings together six people from two families who weave and stitch with pride for the community and visitors. We work with them to make knitwear that feels good to wear.

The masterpiece

We carefully select a distinctive blend of 60% alpaca fiber for exceptional softness and natural warmth, 20% sheep wool for structural integrity and durability, and 20% cotton for breathability and easy care. Each piece is crafted to withstand regular washing and daily wear, so when you choose an Alpaca Voladora garment, you're investing in quality that will serve you well.
